Available in France since January, the Kindle Paperwhite differed from the classical model by proposing a side light to read an e-book in the dark while enjoying the comfort of electronic ink. It also offered more contrast and a higher density of pixels.
This second generation, already available for pre-order, Amazon promises an even greater contrast ratio to enhance the depth of black and white clarity. The definition of the 6-inch screen is 1024 x 768 to 212 DPI.
Without more information, cyber-merchant adds that the device has a new processor, which is 25% faster. Electronic ink is limited in its refresh rate, loading pages do not necessarily find it much faster, but it should support scrolling the page or the various actions performed on the screen. The lighting was also redesigned by directing light either to the reader, but in the direction of the screen. Other new features mentioned include the possibility of moving “ a chapter to another or (go) directly to the end of the book without losing your page .” Furthermore, the system is now able to memorize the words previously searched in the dictionary, which is enriched with extracts of Wikipedia.
Two models will be marketed Kindle Paperwhite. The first, with a Wi-Fi connection is available at 129 euros and will be delivered from October 9, while the second with a free 3G connection, is sold at 189 euros and will be available from 12 November .
