Business: Amazon has bought a Samsung Dutch subsidiary specialized in manufacturing screen for mobile devices, probably in order to develop a technology for its Kindle e-readers and tablets.
rumored since March after being launched by Bloomberg. It is now confirmed. Amazon has acquired Liquavista.
Based in the Netherlands, the company was a subsidiary of Samsung specializes in the manufacture of screens for mobile devices with electrowetting technology supposed to be more efficient than the LCD and less energy.
In a statement taken by our colleagues ZDNet.com, Amazon indicates that the acquisition of Liquavista is part of a long-term strategy, which aims to incorporate new technologies into its products.
No details on the “product” in question, but we can assume that the next Kindle e-readers and tablets are concerned. And why not also or smartphones on which the giant e-commerce currently plancherait? (Eureka Press)
