Amazon grabs Liquavista: a colorful for Kindle? - The Snitch

Amazon bought Liquavista Samsung. That fueling speculations that Amazon prepare a colorful variant of the Kindle e-reading light.

After two months of rumors about an impending sale, Amazon has now confirmed to The Digital Reader have bought the company Liquavista since April 29. It belonged to Samsung.

Liquavista specializes in energy efficient color displays. This could indicate that Amazon plans to release a new Kindle e-reading lamp operating with e-ink color. Amazon does not want to give much details on the acquisition. But the simple phrase “We are excited about the possibilities and are ready to develop screens together with Liquavista” feeds speculation alone.

Technology Philips

Samsung had bought Liquavista in 2011 alone. The technology, based on electrowetting” ‘comes from Philips. In the system, of colored oil, water droplets and a transparent electrode are layered. By changing the electrostatic balance and pressure, the electronic ink can be manipulated. The refresh rate is better than the rest of the market leader, E-Ink, and the screens could also be foldable. E-Ink work against time and again by a more energy efficient.
