Amazon this morning announced the availability of the service in France Kindle Unlimited, five months after its launch in the United States.
Kindle Unlimited is to recall a book-on-demand subscription. It is the e-book that is to music Spotify and Netflix video. For 10 euros / month, allows unlimited access to some of the books and works of the Amazon catalog for Kindle reading light but also from any other Kindle client (for tablets, computer software and Kindle Cloud Reader).
Not surprisingly, as the United States, many publishers refuse to participate. They reserve their securities on unit sales. Amazon has not disclosed the financial terms of its program, but a specialized information site indicated this summer that the giant bookseller paid a commission to the publisher for each download, without elaborating.
In the case only 20,000 of 200,000 French titles are available on subscription and 700,000 titles in foreign languages (predominantly in English) on a total of 3.2 million. French publishers are more cautious than their foreign counterparts (1 title on 10 against 1 of 4.5 on average). For all subscriptions until 10 January 2015 inclusive, the first month of subscription is 1 euro
