The site Amazon.fr announced Thursday the launch in France of its new subscription service “Kindle Unlimited” offers customers unlimited access to a wide selection of digital books for 9.99 euros per month.

Some 700,000 e-books are available, including “more than 20,000 books in French as well as a wide selection of foreign books including many bestsellers in English,” says the giant US online sales on its site.

The launch of the “Netflix of reading” is accompanied by a promotion to 0, 99 euros for the first month.

This offer includes novels, children’s literature, practical works and some exclusives. It includes such great sagas like “Harry Potter”.

The securities concerned are accessible from Thursday on all free Kindle reading and all Kindle devices.

This subscription service has already been launched in the US, and in October, the US group announced the arrival of its “Kindle Unlimited” in Germany, the opening day of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

“There is a great uncertainty as the remuneration of authors with this subscription system. Moreover, the offer of the catalog is weak “, told AFP the president of the National Book Centre (CNL) Vincent Monad.

“French publishers are very vigilant and it is healthy. An operator like Amazon can not expect that falls into his arms even if publishers are already working with him, “he said.

For Juan Pirlot of Corbion, founder and leader of YouScribe who describes himself as leader of the unlimited subscription books France, “it may seem paradoxical but it is a very good news for YouScribe but also for publishers and authors,” says he told AFP.

“Why? Because there are more players, and large players, plus the use of the unlimited subscription will develop. And the books should get a place in the digital world, jostling against the the film, music and games, which themselves have developed long unlimited access. “

In France, the digital platform has Youboox it introduces in 2012 streaming books. There is also eg for digital comics distribution platform and distribution Izneo or Numilog distributor and distributor of digital books.

The weekly average reading time of the French fell by 28 minutes for three years, according to a recent study.
