Amazon Kindle Fire to prepare a 12-inch screen – LesMobiles.com

amazon

Like every school year, Amazon should renew its offer of Kindle Fire tablets. It could even extend to a new format this year. A 12-inch model is in preparation.

Are the shelves 10 inches smaller shelves tomorrow? Maybe. Faced with declining sales models 8 inches and less logical consequence of the success of phablettes, manufacturers seem to adapt their offering with tablets becoming larger. This is done even for Microsoft, with its Surface Pro 3, and Samsung, with its shelves Pro, and others could do the same. There are of course Apple, which is said to work on an iPad Pro for many years, but it’s Amazon discussed today.

Soon a Kindle Fire with 12-inch screen?

According to DigiTimes , the merchant is also at work on a more than 10-inch tablet to complement its Kindle Fire. It consists of four models to recall today with three different sizes: 6, 7 and 8.9 inches. The new model, he would go up to about 12 inches. No other technical details were disclosed but it seems rather logical to expect a high-end equipment inside, so you can enjoy the spacious display. Fire OS without forgetting, of course.

We also learn that the tablet will be available in limited quantities. Amazon does have ordered that 100 000 copies per month to its supplier. Sign that he would rather be an experiment to test the waters. It is therefore unlikely that it replaces one of the existing models in the immediate but we should quickly get to the bottom since the merchant has made a habit of renewing its range of tablets in September, and more specifically in the month September.

This first model 12 inches should also be born “in the coming months.” It will therefore logically part of the line-up of school Amazon, indeed it does exist obviously. No price has yet been mentioned.

Prevent authors to sell their books elsewhere than Amazon … – Actualitté.com

When a book distributor dealing with a reseller web, problems can multiply. And lead to a breakdown of relations. Smashwords and Indian Flipkart have passed the point of no return, and the titles disappear from one platform to another. A metadata problem, which were poorly considered by the seller. But also a reflection of a more complex situation

Threat

Tonko43 CC BY 2.0

Mark Coker, founder of Smashwords, has cracked d a long post to explain what is wrong. If it retains the essential data related to works, which may change, were not properly updated by Flipkart. And to take more field again, it was easier when only paper books existed because their data were static.

Obviously, the problems arose when the author or independent publisher who uses the services of Smashwords, decided to market their books through Kindle Direct Publishing Select. Amazon and exclusivity requires work requires that they be removed from all other outlets. If they do not run, or the books are simply eradicated the Kindle platform. – And in case of recidivism, it is the author / editor that is banned

The KDP Select allows the author / publisher to touch more revenue via the funds set up by Amazon – which pays on loans and ebooks platform Kindle Unlimited. Except that if the ebook is removed from KDP Select, it nevertheless remains in the Amazon ebookstore.

And that’s where problems arise: Mark Coker has never concealed a certain antipathy against Amazon. As a competitor, it’s understandable. “ Many freelancers do not understand the long term implications of KDP Select ,” he says. However, the proposed title million, most from independent. But for authors / editors, the situation is simple: books sell better with this exclusive

Fuelling the resentment of authors

I think KDP Select is toxic to the future of independent publishing because it forces the authors to abandon competing retailers, and is becoming more dependent Amazon . Where competitors resellers lose access to this important indie catalog, they can no longer exercise competition

But back to Flipkart. Amazon is not responsible of the problem Smashwords with just the catalyst. In fact, the pressure of the firm on the authors is, relatively speaking, identical to those used against large corporations. And the fact that perpetrators are caught between the proliferation of sales channels, and exclusivity, does not allow to develop effective integration solutions to connect a catalog to a sales platform.

The tactics Amazon have a chilling effect on the creation of future start-up selling ebooks, since they discourage independent authors to work with other resellers “Mark gears. “ Amazon does not just punish the perpetrator in the local market, he hits the author in the world. “And so now the 200,000 ebooks from Smashwords catalog disappeared from India. Because Amazon is a relentless war machine

Mark Coker to address in a letter to Jeff Bezos. “ The message you send to the authors is that they risk the wrath Amazon and punishment if they allow your competitors to sell their books. Maybe that’s your plan. In this case, it is brilliant. But it has a default key: he forges strong resentment in the community of authors. “(via Smashwords)

Do the authors really turn its back on Amazon? That’s what he says. But in the meantime …

Amazon Kindle Travel – CNET France

In recent years, the mantra Amazon for its tablets and e-readers was to design “high-quality products at prices that are not high-end.” Hence the surprise of some people seeing out upscale readers, the Kindle Travel, sold at a high price. It costs 190 euros for the Wi-Fi version and 250 euros for the model Wi-Fi / 3G. Available for a while in the US, the Kindle reading light travel just arrived in our country.

 amazon-kindle-trip

(note: the Travel Edition was released in the United States before the arrival of the Kindle Paperwhite 2015. When this test refers to the Kindle Paperwhite, it is the previous model, not the 2015 model)

Travel Kindle is not a radical update to Kindle Paperwhite compared. It includes 4 GB of storage. It is thinner (7.6 mm) and lighter (181 g against plud 200 g). Above all, it incorporates a lighting system more efficient screen, higher resolution (300 dpi, dots per inch) that offers better contrast and sharpness. The new Kindle Paperwhite (edition 2015) adopts the same screen resolution.

 amazon-kindle-trip

Travel Kindle Kindle reading light is the best that we tested. Is the price difference justified? If you already have a smoothing Kindle Paperwhite and that you only use occasionally, then the answer is no. But, if you are an avid reader, then you can turn to this model which is simply excellent.

Design

Travel Kindle Kindle reading light is the first to feature a facade totally smooth without glass rim and a magnesium back. It uses a touch screen 6 inches of a display density of 300 dpi has the technology Carta E Ink. As the Paperwhite, the travel is based on a capacitive touchscreen instead of infrared technology in 2014. The Kindle screen is treated to resist scratching and its surface is covered with a micro-etched pattern that guides the light to reduce glare. In our tests in full sun and indoors, we noticed a slight improvement, but that does not mean the total disappearance of reflections

 amazon-kindle-trip

In some ways, the Kindle Travel resembles the Kobo Aura weighs 174 grams and displays similar technical specifications. There is also a sealed version (Kobo Aura H2O) which costs around 180 euros with a screen 6.8-inch E Ink technology Carta like the travel. Still, it is more elegant and has access to it for the ecosystem of Amazon e-book while Kobo can read format “open” epub.

The display Touch the travel is a tad more responsive than the Paperwhite, but we did not notice any significant difference. When placed side by side, we still see that the travel of the screen is a bit sharper and better contrast with more sustained especially blacks. The maximum brightness is also pushing more intense (39% more according to Amazon) and the screen is blank. One of the novelties of travel lies in automatically adjusting the brightness of the screen depending on the brightness of the environment. It is always possible to adjust the backlight manually, but the automatic function is handy. Also note the “Nightlight” gradually decreasing brightness as your eyes adjust to the darkness

Another new. Haptic effect the appearance of buttons named PagePress. This function triggers the change of page and allows to notify the reader with a slight vibration. The system works fine but we prefer to turn pages by touching the edge of the screen.

 amazon-kindle-trip

All new Kindle hosts a 1 GHz processor and 4 GB of storage without possibility of extending it via a memory card. Four gigabytes already can store thousands of books and other documents. The Kindle Travel has 1 GB of RAM, making it a bit faster than other Kindle. However, the e-ink technology is inherently slow, so do not expect a reactivity equivalent to that of an Android tablet or iPad

 amazon-kindle-trip

Amazon does not provide adapter with its Kindle. Only a micro USB cable comes in the box. We must therefore use your computer or your smartphone or tablet adapter to charge your Kindle. No not protective case. They are optional. It may be wise to get one, given the price of the unit. Amazon offers Origami case, very well designed and we recommend despite its high price of 45 euros. There is a leather version that is even more expensive (60 euros).

 amazon-kindle-trip

The battery life is given for six weeks on the basis of half an hour of daily reading with the wireless turned off. This is less than the eight weeks of the Kindle Paperwhite. It seems that the screen is Travel greedier or that Amazon has trimmed the battery to save weight. Or both at once. We always think in weeks, not days, the slightly lower autonomy should not be a big problem.

We will not delve too deeply into the features and interface Kindle Travel. The Amazon platform continues to mature and receive functions. Include the Interactive Vocabulary feature that automatically collects all the words you looked in the dictionary. Word Wise facilitates reading a book in English including the difficult vocabulary with short definitions and simple that automatically appear over complicated words. Kindle FreeTime allows you to create custom profiles for your children and give them access to a selection of songs from your library.

 amazon-kindle-trip

Rest of the ecosystem of Amazon e-book. Certainly the most complete of the market.

The price of the Kindle can travel wince. A pattern emerges in the world of e-readers: offering devices with high resolution screens whose price is higher. They cater to avid readers who want the best reading light possible. This is exactly what the Kindle Travel: excellent reading light but who pays the price (some) strong

Recycle its Kindle digital notebook, a shot WiFi – Actualitté.com

Recycling is the future. It is also necessary to know what to make of his old appliances. Take the Kindle, for example: instead of buying a pen and write on the door of the fridge, it is possible to transform the Amazon ebook reader digital reminder and leave messages to attention of his family. Forward for the DIY of the day …

Peter Vojtek devised a little trick by which he sends emails directly to a server, which will forward them to the Kindle, wisely installed on the fridge door. To do this, simply create a dedicated email account: KindleSuprise@gmail.com – attention, it’s got to be the gmail, mandatory

Then, send a message, such as: “. My love, think ALSO toilet bowl should be cleaned . “The rest is held with a webserver configured to receive and process applications. It will serve as an interface between the email sent and the Kindle. A few lines of code are needed to ensure this transition, Peter Vojtek exposed to this address.

It is imperative that the Kindle and the server are configured on the same WiFi network. Some small tweaks then intervene on the Kindle to receive email him, he displayed with undisguised pleasure – these machines are very docile. The email, including with an attachment, will be displayed on the screen ebook reader. Famous.

This process requires a slight hacking of Kindke since it operates certain secret orders of the device by disabling the screen saver. It is then a combination of Ajax and JavaScript that automatically update the Web page that the server here Raspberry Pi uses.

If you test at home, do not hesitate to send us photos of your achievements!

TEST – Amazon: Kindle the travel is a must, but a must, which has a price – MetroNews

What is the Kindle Travel, the most advanced electronic reading lamp Amazon? MetroNews has tested and delivers his verdict.

WE LOVED

Compact and light
Here is a reading light which hardly takes Place (162 x 115 x 7.6 mm) and is forgotten at the bottom of a bag (180 g in the WiFi version). Travelers will appreciate its lightness, daily users of public transport its compactness. It fits easily in the hand, especially since it is easy to turn a page with side touch buttons. Finally, autonomy can easily read a book before you have to recharge the reading light, provided disable WiFi when you do not need to.

Tactile buttons handy
Kindle Travel has four side buttons, two left and two right that have the same function: turn the page towards forward or backward. This feature, called PagePress, complements the touch screen and allows navigation in a book with one hand. New for this model: there is a haptic feedback with a slight vibration to confirm the move. We can hold the Kindle by having his finger on the page change key without this having any effect. More pressure, without moving the finger at any time, and page turns. Technology that works perfectly well and is convenient to use. We just regret the absence of a very light backlighting of these keys when in the dark: sometimes we fumbled a bit before falling over …

A backlit display still effective
If assert that it is impossible to read on a tablet and an electronic reading light is essential would be lying, use of such a device with an E-ink display (Electronic ink with 16 gray levels) is certainly more comfortable for the eyes. First, because the glass that covers the slab is antireflective. Then because electronic ink can be read even in the sunniest conditions (at the beach for example). And when it’s dark, the Kindle Travel adapts. The 6-inch screen (15 cm diagonal) is backlit. A detail? Not at all: once you’ve tasted it, you can not do without. Perfect for reading at night without disturbing his / her partner. Moreover, it is possible to adjust the level of brightness but the unit has an automatic management function according to the ambient lighting. We used it and are captivated by its practicality. Well done!

WE LIKED LEAST

Travel Kindle is not a baroudeuse
Despite its name, this electronic reading lamp Amazon is not protected against dust (sand station on the beach) or waterproofed. Too bad because this last feature that we could test with Kobo Aura H2O, is a real plus if you like to read in the bath or wants to enjoy his reading lamp near a pool without fear.

The Kindle store: very simple but also very closed
Like Apple’s strategy and its closed ecosystem, Amazon Kindle e-readers are cut to work seamlessly with Amazon’s online bookstore but much less easily with other bookstores or libraries online. The Kindle can not read yet some popular formats such as ePub. However, he welcomed the arrival of the text-to-speak option, which transforms any book in audio book.

A salty prices
A 190 euros for the WiFi version (250 euros for WiFi + 3G), the Kindle is really not travel given. This is the price to pay for a compact reading lamp, light, backlighting and ultra-easy to use. If this appeals to you but do not want to pay such a sum, the alternative is for Amazon Paperwhite. 33 g heavier on the scales and a slightly higher dimensions but 60 euros less at checkout (129.99 euros).

REPORT
addition to price a tad too high, the Kindle e-Travel is an excellent reading light which proves handy in everyday life and with good battery life. The library of Amazon is well supplied, although we would have appreciated the opportunity to use the ePub formats. With a few dollars less, we would advise you to go for it. Otherwise, there is always the Paperwhite …
