The Amazon Kindle online store in the Netherlands – Actualitté.com

Since this morning, the Amazon Kindle store is officially available in the Netherlands, accessible via amazon.nl. The opening of the store was not really a surprise, after a few leaks regarding negotiations on contracts for the distribution of digital books. The catalog number is Dutch for now 20,000 books.

In addition to this further reduces catalog, Amazon offers 3 models of digital readers the basic Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite and travel, with the latter two in the 3G version. Kindle reading applications for different devices and operating systems are also highlighted.

The missing is of course Kindle Unlimited, offering unlimited subscription reading: it will obviously Amazon few more months to convince local publishers to bring their titles to the catalog service. Indeed, KU opened in Italy with 15,000 titles in its catalog, which seems to appear a minimum credible. But with only 20,000 titles in Kindle format, publishers already seem timid vis-à-vis the ecommerçant maligned.

Amazon will face local competitor Bol.com in partnership with Kobo, which is a leader in the Netherlands and Flanders. German actor Tolino will also entering the market, prior to spring 2015.
