Launched in the UK in September, the service that offers to download an unlimited number of books arrived in Germany on Tuesday and soon in France.
Amazon offers subscription to a digital bookstore, Kindle Unlimited, landed in Europe. Launched in July in the United States and in September in the UK, it provides access to smartphone, tablet or reading light to an unlimited number of titles from over 600,000 references to 9.99 dollars per month. The service was opened in Germany on Tuesday just before the start of the Frankfurt Book Fair on Tuesday. It should now be launched in France as well, but no specific date has yet been revealed. Fleurus, the French subsidiary of Media Holdings, has announced to join the Amazon French offer. In France, Kindle Unlimited will compete with existing services or as Youboox YouScribe.
Since launching Kindle Unlimited, British publishers totaled against Amazon and launched without their consent unlimited supply. A commission is paid to them from one of their books is viewed by a user, as if they were selling an e-book. The question is whether the model will prove profitable for Amazon (see article: “Kindle Unlimited: Netflix of book is it worthwhile for publishers to Amazon?” Of 7/17/14).
