Import ban Kindle Paperwhite in Russia – Actualitté.com

Russian Customs come to find a radical solution to counter Amazon: prevent the import of its products. Obviously, the device uses an encryption system for which it is necessary to obtain a specific marketing license. And no luck, Amazon will not get it.

The import ban Kindle Paperwhite in Russia was reported by Alexei Lukatskii, who works for the SecurityLab firm specializing in computer security. Depending on what has explained the customs, the Amazon ebook reader has a data encryption model that is not compatible with the Russian legislation.

This is a real discovery, since the device was marketed, not without some success, since October 2013 in the country. However, you have to buy from foreign platforms, since the Russian version of Amazon is not yet open. During the summer of 2013, the company had started a series of negotiations with major Russian publishers.

Especially strange that the classical model of Kindle seems delivered without any restrictions. Arkady Vitruk, head of the Russian office of Amazon, did not provide for the time information on the reasons for these restrictions.

Amazon is however not the first US company to be stuck at the entrance of the Russian territory, for similar reasons . Last year Motorola smartphones have experienced the same trouble. (Via Software)

The ban, however, could not be anything other than the result of a thinly veiled protectionism for block imports on absurd grounds.
